Top Ten Favorite Films of 2018

Happy Oscar Day!  So I thought 2018 was a pretty decent year for movies.  Admittedly, I didn't get out to the theaters as much as I would have liked.  I missed a lot of the big hits in theaters like Creed II, Solo, and Mission Impossible.  But there is one movie that I did see in theaters, and I am very proud that I did.  It didn't make my top ten, but it did make an impact on me for being the first all Asian cast movie in 25 years.  Of course I'm talking about Crazy Rich Asians!  The movie meant a lot to me personally and I'm so pleased the film was such a huge hit!  Now, on to the list! 10. Deadpool 2 I loved the first Deadpool and I am so happy that the sequel is just a good as the first!  Did you guys see the Celine Dion music video?  Oh my god, that was brilliant!!  I love how the Deadpool movies  completely has its head up its own ass and doesn't even apologize for it.  It walks such a fine line between comedy...

Top Ten Least Favorite Films of 2018

Here we go! 10. Lean on Pete Let me make one thing clear.  Lean on Pete is not a bad film.  It in fact is a good film.  A very good film, actually.  I just didn't enjoy it.  At all.  It was incredibly depressing, and I have zero desire to ever watch it again nor ever think about it again.  In my opinion, it is 100% the opposite of a movie that I would like.  It's about a young boy who takes a job helping an old, washed up horse trainer.  The boy becomes attached to one of the horses, Pete, and when he learns that Pete is up for slaughter, he runs away with Pete, trying to save the horse from its fate.  Along the journey the boy becomes orphaned and basically homeless.  Things just get worse and worse from there.  Not at all an enjoyable film watching experience. 9. Disobedience I feel like producers made this movie just so the Rachels could make out.  The film was very uninteresting.  Rachel Weisz plays a woma...

Top Ten Favorite Films of 2017

Happy Oscar Day!  2017 was kind of an interesting year for films, huh?  2017 was an interesting year in general, and a lot of it was reflected in the movies that came out.  I feel like it was a year women and people of color finally had their stories told, their voices heard, and the world listened...well, for the most part.  Wonder Woman, The Fate of the Furious, Lady Bird, Get Out, The Big Sick, Mudbound, Shape of Water, Girl's Trip, Coco, etc.  All movies where women and/or people of color were in front AND behind the camera!  Some of these movies probably would not have been made even five years ago.  And if the success of Black Panther is any indication, the trend can only continue!  If you're a woman and/or a person of color (I'm two for two!) it is very exciting!  At the risk of sounding racist, I ain't gonna lie.  I'm getting sick of watching movies about white people all the damn time.  #sorrynotsorry And as far as the Os...

Top Ten Least Favorite Films of 2017

First of all, I apologize for the ugly color scheme and layout of my blog.  I never settled on anything that I was happy with, and since I write on this this basically once a year, I never cared enough about the look of it.  If you can stand the hideousness, please enjoy this list of my least favorite films from 2017! 10. Pitch Perfect 3 I'm sorry, Twin, Jet, and Kenneth!  I had a blast hanging out and seeing this with you guys, but the more I think about the actual movie...the more upset I get.  I am not ashamed to admit that I loved Pitch Perfect and Pitch Perfect 2!  I think they are both great and funny and uplifting.  I love the characters, and I love the friendship they have with each other.  That's why I was super excited to see this movie!  I wanted more of that!  More fun, silly, strong female friendships and great singing!  But what I got was a steaming load of crap!  I'm 100% certain every single person who worked on ...

2017 Resolution: Q1 Check In

March is coming to an end, and I thought I'd write an entry to review my progress with baking!  I know we're not quite at the end of March yet, but I know I will not be able to bake anything until next month because I am going to be very busy!  So I will wrap up Q1 now. January: I started out by making quick breads.  I did not even know what quick bread was when I started!  It is bread that does not require yeast.  Instead you use a leavening agent (such as baking powder or baking soda) to make the bread rise.  This was the right move on my part.  If you are just learning how to bake like myself, I highly recommend starting with quick breads. February: In February I graduated to yeast bread.  I started with a basic honey wheat bread that turned out okay, except for the fact that I burned it.  Because of this, I now literally sit in front of my oven and watch the contents during the last five or so minutes of baking.  Pat calls it m...

Top Ten Favorite Films of 2016

Happy Oscar Day!  I gotta say, 2016 was a pretty good year for movies!  Overall I was quite pleased with the films that came out this year.  It was a challenge picking just 10 of my favorites.  What were your favorites of the year?  Here are mine. 10. Hacksaw Ridge That Mel Gibson might be bat shit crazy, but he makes freakin' good films!  This movie tells the true story of Desmond Doss who served in WWII without firing a single weapon.  He wants to join the military as a medic, but because it's against his religion to kill, he refuses to touch a weapon, even through training.  Everyone thinks he's a joke and a coward, but he proves them all wrong when he rescues something like 75 wounded soldiers from the battlefield to safety.  It's an amazing story and an amazing film!  Andrew Garfield did a fantastic job!  He won't win, but I'm glad he was recognized for his work.  I see a very bright future ahead for him.  Also, S...
