Remember when I used to write movie reviews? Let's do that again!
My Twin, who has been very active on her blog(s) lately, has inspired me to revamp and revive my own blog. I've always liked writing and sharing my thoughts on my favorite things: movies, books, and food, so I figured why not try to do this blogging thing again? I used to do it all the time back in my Xanga days! Oh, Xanga! So I thought what could be more appropriate to bring my blog back than with a review of a Ben movie?
Obviously I liked it! Ben plays an autistic accountant who also happens to cook the books for the world's most dangerous gangsters and dirty crooks! The FBI is closing in on him, so Ben decides to take on a legitimate job to throw the FBI off his trail. He takes a job at a robotics corporation that needs him to look at their finances and pin point a mistake that a staff accountant, played by Anna Kendrick, identified. Because Ben is a autistic math genius, he goes Will Hunting on their asses and in one night figures out that $6 million is missing! The next morning, Ben is told his assignment is over and to take his payment and go home. Oh and also, the CFO killed himself. So obviously something fishy is going on! Because of his autism, Ben TOTALLY freaks out over the fact that he can't finish his job, so he and Anna team up to figure out what happened together. Things get dangerous, action scenes and violence ensues.
I liked the movie a lot, but I have to admit, I had a hard time following the plot. There were a lot of subplots going on that I didn't quite understand. For example, J.K. Simmon's character, who is head of the Treasury Department's Crime Enforcement division, hires Marybeth Medina to find out who Ben is. So her investigation is going on at the same time that Ben and Anna are running for their lives from the robotics company, and they are all somehow connected by a mysterious Siri-like voice who communicates with everyone over the phone. I confess that I had to have the plot explained to me like I was a five year old by reading the IMDB message boards. I think I have it all straightened out now, but I could definitely benefit from a second viewing.
Even with the confusing plot, I still enjoyed watching it. Ben did a great job, the action was pretty exciting, and it was all in all a solid film!
