Top Ten Favorite Films of 2024

Happy Oscar Day!  For the first time, the Oscars are going to be available to stream live on Hulu, which means I can watch the Oscars in my own home instead of mooching off a friend’s or family’s TV for the first time in like ten years!  You have no idea how excited I am about this!  As I look over my top ten list, I'm seeing a theme.  The theme is "fun"!  I feel like many of the films I loved from this year was good old fashion fun!  Let's get to it 10. Inside Out 2   Such a cute, feel good family film!   I would expect nothing less from Pixar.   They really nailed those awkward, insecure tween years.   Riley is growing up, and now that she’s hit puberty, four new emotions have been added inside her head: Ennui, Embarrassment, Envy, and of course Anxiety.   When Riley finds out her two best friends will be going to a different school the next year, she is flooded with these new emotions, and she doesn’t know ho...

Top Ten Favorite Films of 2023

Happy Oscar Day!  For the first time in 27 years, I will miss the Oscars!  My family is visiting and I don't have TV!  So I will have to catch the highlights the next day on the interwebs.  Even though I won't be watching the show, doesn't mean I 'm not going to make my annual top ten list!  So here we go!    10. Oppenheimer   I'm sorry I didn't catch Oppenheimer in IMAX 70mm, but it was still super awesome watching in my living room in my PJ's!  I learned a lot about American history from watching Oppenheimer.  I knew very little about the Manhattan Project.  All I knew was that they tested the bomb in New Mexico and dropped it in Japan.  I didn't realize America was in a race with the Nazis to create the bomb, and I certainly didn't know about how they threw Oppenheimer under the bus after he spoke out against further use of the bomb.  Christopher Nolan is top Christopher Nolan, and I hope he wins for Best Director tonig...

Top Ten Favorite Films of 2022

Happy Oscar Day!  I don't know what they're going to do to top last year's very exciting show, but I can't wait to find out!   So I made it to the theaters twice this year!  I'm slowly easing my way back into theater life, however, it's hard when so many films are available to stream now!  The industry sure is changing!  I think overall 2022 was a great year for movies.  There were outrageous movies like The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent (hilarious!), cute family films like The Rise of Gru (adorable!), and socially impactful movies like Till (heartbreaking).  And of course, there are Kim's Top Ten.  Warning: possible spoilers ahead!   10. She Said   I think the investigative journalism genre is underappreciated.  All the Presidents Men, Spotlight, The Post, and now She Said.  Every time I see these types of movies, I can't help but have great respect for journalists.  It makes me so mad at those people who scream "fa...

Top Ten Favorite Films of 2021

Happy Oscar Day!   Here we are again!   Even after all we’ve been through as a society, I still love the Oscars, and I still love movies, and I still like making my Top Ten Favorite Films of the Year List. But before you get into it, I want to remind you that I often like trash movies lol!   You’ll see.   The older I get the more I tend to listen to my heart and choose movies that I personally enjoyed, even though most critics (or people with good taste for that matter) would disagree with me.   So without further adieu!   10. Don’t Look Up   LEEEOOOOOO!!!   Leo is always so good!   I couldn’t wait to see Leo in this movie, and he did not disappoint – I mean, he never does!   I loved his performance as the awkward, dorky, sweaty scientist trying to warn the world that the planet is doomed.   I also loved Jennifer Lawrence’s performance, and of course Meryl is always great.   But d...
